Ocean Township's 150th anniversary was built for the summer. The township put together fireworks, a garvey race, a marina flotilla and a parade for it. With the Pine Barrens Jamboree finished as of October 10, nearly all of what's left is an anniversary label added to events Waretown already holds every fall and winter. Only two dates between now and Christmas exist just for the 150th, both concerts, and the first is six days away. The formal close doesn't come until April 2027.
That shapes how you plan the rest of the year. The parade-scale events are over. The rest of the anniversary now runs through Albert Music Hall's Saturday nights, the Historical Society's cemetery walks, the fire company's holiday light show and the tree lighting.
The Summer Half Was Built From Scratch
The township's 150th Anniversary Calendar of Events shows how much of the year was made for the occasion. It started with fireworks over the bay on May 23 at Bayfront Park and Pier on Bryant Road. Garvey boat racing followed on June 6, starting from Holiday Beach Club. On July 4, the bell at the Little Red School House Museum rang at 2 p.m. to match the ringing of the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia.
After that came a marina flotilla with a talk on Waretown's shipbuilding history on July 18. The Brass Tacks Orchestra played the Corliss Park Pavilion on August 11. The township parade and vendor fair were August 29, and an interfaith service at Corliss Lake followed the next day.
October 10 was the turning point. The Pine Barrens Jamboree at Wells Mills County Park is its own event, and the township's part was a booth shared with the Historical Society. TAPinto reported that hundreds turned out for Pine Barrens music, craft demonstrations, guided walks, canoe rentals and food trucks. From that day on, the anniversary has mostly been joining events that already had a date.
What Remains, and How Each Item Is Billed
Five items are left on the anniversary calendar. Here's each one, along with how the township and its partners describe it elsewhere.
| Date | Anniversary listing | Where | Also known as |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oct. 18 | Albert Music Hall Concert | Corliss Park, per the township's 2026 calendar | Stand-alone 150th event |
| October | Cemetery walks with township historian Adele Shaw | Waretown Old Cemetery, 905 Wells Mills Road | Unclear if linked to the Historical Society's walks |
| Nov. 21 | Annual Albert Music Hall Concert | Albert Music Hall, 131 Wells Mills Road | The Hall's Homeplace Show |
| Dec. 4 | Tree Lighting & Holiday Party, 6 p.m. | Firehouse or Town Hall, depending on the source | Township Tree Lighting |
| Dec. 11, 12, 18, 19 | Anniversary Display in the Holiday Light Show | Corliss Park, 182 Wells Mills Road | 6th Annual Holiday Light Show |
The November concert has "Annual" in its own title. The light show is in its sixth year, and the tree lighting is on the township's standard 2026 calendar. The township calendar also lists Historical Society cemetery walks for October. That leaves October 18 as the only item on the anniversary calendar that appears to exist just for the 150th. The township's own 2026 calendar adds one more, a "150th Anniversary Albert Music Hall Concert" from 12 to 5 p.m. in the week of November 1. Its exact day isn't clear from the printed grid.
Two Concerts Exist Only for the 150th
The anniversary calendar lists it simply as "October 18th: Albert Music Hall Concert." The township's printed 2026 calendar gives a fuller name for that Sunday's box: "150th Anniversary Albert Music Hall Concert at Corliss Park." The name refers to the music, and Corliss Park is the venue. The hall's own website lists its Saturday show on October 17 and nothing on Sunday the 18th, which fits an outdoor event run by the township. The early-November afternoon concert is just as thin on details, and the township calendar doesn't name a venue for it. As of today, no start time, lineup or admission has been published for it.
The cemetery walks are harder to pin down, because the sources describe them three different ways. The township calendar lists "Waretown Historical Society Cemetery Walks" for "throughout the month of October." The anniversary brochure lists a Colonial/Victorian Cemetery Tour at Waretown Old Cemetery. The Historical Society's August 17 meeting minutes are the most specific:
"Two cemetery tours – Oct. 10th and the 24th, Presbyterian Cemetery and Cedar Grove Cemetery. Parking at the Methodist church. Bring flashlights"
The first of those dates was Jamboree day, so October 24 is the remaining one. The note about flashlights suggests an evening walk, but the minutes don't give a start time. None of the three sources says whether the Old Cemetery tour and the society's tours are the same outing.
Albert Music Hall Is Carrying the Anniversary Into November
The busiest venue for the rest of the 150th is the 350-seat hall at 131 Wells Mills Road, Route 532. Parking is free, with more behind the building, and admission is cash only.
The hall's regular Saturday show doesn't stop for the anniversary. This Saturday, October 17, doors open at 5:30 p.m. and music starts at 6:30. Admission is $6 for adults and $1 for children. Pete Wagula, Joe Kocher, Captain Dave & High Tide and L&B Line are on the bill, with one more act still listed as "To be confirmed." That puts a paid indoor show and the free-standing anniversary concert at Corliss Park on back-to-back nights, both drawing on the same Pinelands music scene.
Friday, October 30 brings Songwriters in the Pines, which is free, with donations welcome. Doors open at 6 p.m. and music starts at 7. Six acts each play a 30-minute set of original songs: The Lonesome Pines, Anthony West, Acoustic Flannel, Mindy Murray, Alexa Tabbacchino and Sam Houseal.
November has three special shows in a row:
- November 7: Jersey Devil Show
- November 14: Veterans Show
- November 21: Homeplace Show
The township lists November 21 as its "Annual Albert Music Hall Concert," the same night the hall calls its Homeplace Show. The hall's schedule page doesn't list start times or prices for these November shows yet. If the $6 regular-show admission doesn't carry over, expect the hall to post the details closer to each date.
The Smaller October Dates Are Mostly for Kids
The rest of October's township calendar has nothing to do with the anniversary, and much of it is aimed at younger residents.
- Halloween House Decorating Contest: registration closes October 19, by email to [email protected].
- Youth skateboard clinic, October 17: FCA Skate and Surf runs it from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the Waretown Skate Park, 119 Wells Mills Road. It's for ages 5 to 13 and costs $10. Riders bring their own board, helmet and pads, and the rain date is November 21, according to TAPinto.
- Waretown Volunteer Fire Company Halloween Parade, October 25: 12:45 p.m. at the Waretown Library.
- Township pumpkin-decorating contest: entries are due October 26 and winners are named October 28, as TAPinto reported.
If the skate clinic gets rained out, it moves to November 21. That's the same day as the Homeplace Show, so a family could fit both into one Saturday on Wells Mills Road, with the skate park and the hall about a dozen house numbers apart.
December Closes the Year at Corliss Park
The township's Recreation Department runs its food and toy drives from November 1 through December 11. Registration for the holiday house-decorating contest stays open through December 16.
The tree lighting on December 4 is the one date where the sources disagree about the venue. The anniversary calendar says "Tree Lighting & Holiday Party at Firehouse." The township's 2026 calendar says "Township Tree Lighting @ Town Hall 6pm." The anniversary brochure calls it a Tree Lighting and Snowman Party at 6 p.m. and doesn't name a place. All three agree on the time. Recreation answers event questions at 609-548-6319, which is the fastest way to confirm the venue before that Friday.
The last anniversary item belongs to an event that's older than the anniversary planning. The Waretown Volunteer Fire Company and the Township of Ocean hold their sixth annual Holiday Light Show at Corliss Park, 182 Wells Mills Road. It runs four nights, December 11, 12, 18 and 19, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. In 2021, Patch described it as a drive-through fundraiser run jointly by the township and the fire company. This year's lineup adds an anniversary display, though the township's materials don't yet say what it will look like.
Local names paid for the year. The sponsor list on the 150th calendar starts with Sonny's Recycling at the platinum level and includes Lighthouse Tavern, Harvest Buffet, the Rotary Club of Barnegat and the GOA Women's Club. December 19 is the last anniversary date of 2026. The anniversary brochure schedules the official 150th End of Celebration Event, Founders Day, for April 10, 2027, at Frederic A. Priff School.
